Sierran Sonnet

A sonnet to & for Sierra Ferrell

Sing, Sierra, with your voice that’s the earth
of the ridge-line peaks ‘n the forest spruce!
Above the lowland valleys, river-birthed,
your mountain-spirit ‘n your nomad’s truth!
Across America on wiccan wings,
riding ‘pon the heatwaves of fiddle-fire
blazing Appalachian – devilled strings
dancing daring bluegrass in jazz attire!
Ravishing revue; circus Romani –
fantastical performance, feather-haired
with painted face, dress draping harmony
o’er swing-stamp boots, their rhythm-soul declared!
So, Sierra, set your voice to its tune!
Sing as the earth amidst the sun ‘n moon!
